As we have seen earlier, internet marketing acronyms cause a great deal of confusion. Some people wonder what the difference between PPC and SEM is. If you have read all of the earlier posts, you shouldn’t be confused as you already possess a basic understanding of these terms.

The truth of the matter is that PPC (pay-per-click) is merely a part of SEM (search engine marketing). As we have already discussed in the SEM section, paid advertising is an aspect of SEM. PPC is nothing but a type of paid advertising.

For this reason, some people in the industry treat PPC and SEM as synonyms. However, this is not correct. PPC and SEM do not mean the same thing! PPC is merely a type of paid advertising. On the other hand, SEM is a much broader term that covers PPC and a host of other online advertising techniques.
